Org mode dependency on htmlize

There’s a long convoluted discussion the org mode mailing list if a dependency on htmlize needs to be removed. I have a hard time understanding the issue at hand.

It was created by the fact that org mode refers to GitHub rather than the library itself (which is free software). It evolved into a general discussion what parts of Emacs may or may not refer to. This now led to the demand by Richard Stallmann and some others that parts of org mode be rewritten. This is much more than the issue that started the discussion.

The original poster claimed that referring to GitHub is a ‘moral issue’. In my mind it’s much more a moral issue to put pressure on the org mode maintainers to spend a large part of their precious time on something that was neither broken nor newly added.
