Why yet another blog? Aren’t there already enough (or maybe even too many) blogs on the Internet? Don’t we have enough experts to share their insights?
All valid questions. However despite all this I try to post some of my thoughts as well. My motivation here is twofold:
- I came across a this post which includes the fascinating idea I might be able to think better by writing. Who wouldn’t want to think better? I read a lot on the Internet but I’m rarely able to recollect or share interesting topics. For now it’s an experiment and I notice that even thinking of what to post makes me more mindful of topics I spent my time and thoughts on. On top I hope the effect will be similar to the effect that you only truly understand something if you can explain it to someone else.
- And secondly I’d like to have a spot I can refer to independent of my current employer or some social media platform. I already lost a number of posts I had published on the blog of a previous company I worked for. Karl Voit has a very good post on why you shouldn’t post anything relevant on Web forums that points to the same issue and also recommends using your own site.
While I currently apparently don’t use my own domain I own the content as markdown files which I can easily move elsewhere. As a basis for my experiment that seems good enough. Let’s see if it works out as I envision it. Even though I should focus on writing not on tools tinkering with Hugo is fun as well. I have to admit this fun is yet another motivation.
